CELLPHONE S/T Limited Edition Cassette

CELLPHONE is Michael Wirth Broth, Eric J Farber (Easy Boy, Truman Peyote), JM Leon (Easy Boy) & Alex Janssen (Guy Dallas, VOWLS). They are a synth-punk group that exist somewhere between the tri-axis of Miami, Boston & Toronto. Imagine a pubescent Black Flag with a 707, Juno 60 and Futurisk fetish and you might be close to the sound storm on this cassette. Recorded, mixed and mastered in Polyphasic Studios. ESSENTIAL!

Rudolf Bardot – Inneren Frieden

Pan dimensional kosmische bliss from Rudolf Bardot. Inneren Frieden is a one hour extract taken from the four hour ‘Children of the Stars’ meditation cycle. As the guru Bardot puts it “The music is intended as a celestial handrail to ascend the cosmic staircase”. Highly recommended for astral headphone travelers everywhere.

The Shaw Institute – Synthesizer Studies: Module One

Module One is the first in the series of synthesizer studies from The Shaw Institute. Each of the ten tracks were composed using only one synthesizer to explore what the Institute calls ‘Machine Entropy’. These aged machines produce fascinating sounds on their natural journey towards a state of decay. Each piece has a drifting quality, as if slowly floating to the edge of the sound horizon and out of view. Extend your sonic telescopes to their full capacity to catch a final glimpse before these fleeting tones disappear in the folds of perception.

  • Kanada 70 – Meagre Means
    May 8, 2011 | 12:01 pm

Mysterious CD-Rs have been appearing in records stores across Toronto for the last few years, all housed in photocopied Letraset sleeves with a $0.00 price sticker on the front, all under the moniker Kanada 70, the nom-de-plume of Craig Dunsmuir (Glissandro 70, Max Gross). Culling from several of these releases between 2006 and 2010, all [...]

  • May 1, 2011 | 11:26 am

Named after the Brian De Palma film about the intimacy and invasive nature of sound recording (in his case a metaphor for filmmaking), this EP finds Toronto’s VOWLS eavesdropping on Pop music. The a-side Burlap swaggers around a drum machine beat that sounds like a New Order 45 played at 33rpm, with thick psychedelic layers [...]

  • VOWLS Plays Monterey Pop (Remastered)
    March 25, 2011 | 11:27 am

About the Film Inspired by Ron Hardy’s disco re-edits, Michael Marranda’s revised literary texts and Richard Prince’s appropriated photographs, this video is composed entirely from footage taken from D.A. Pennebaker’s documentary on the 1967 Monterey Pop music festival. Instead of using the iconic footage of the performances, VOWLS chose to focus on the audience, [...]
